Landing Your Dream Job: Social Media

  • Employers are using social networks to research potential hires and gather more information vs. during the interview.

  • 70% use social media to screen candidates during the hiring process

  • 43% of employers use social media to check on current employees

  • May include but not limited to: Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Pinterest, etc.

  • Have you ever Googled yourself? 

Remove any photos that may be deemed as inappropriate (Grandma Rule)

Check privacy settings to see what is visible to public

Avoid excessive & inappropriate language in posts

Grammar and Spell Check

Remove any reference(s) to drug and alcohol use.

Email Etiquette-- What did I do wrong?

  • Used emojis or other chat language

  • Didn't respond in a timely manner

  • Tone of the email was negative or aggressive

  • Unclear subject line or messaging

  • Didn't include a formal salutation or closing

  • Used an unprofessional email address

  • Spelling and grammar errors
