Interpretive Reading (Mini-Speech)

In this assignment you may choose to present an oral reading, fairy tale, tall tale or an excerpt from an article or book. The presentation must include an introduction and background information on the author and/or the selection. Evaluation will focus on your introduction, vocal expressiveness, rate, volume, and appearance of preparation.

TIME: 2-3 MINUTES

  • Catchy intro
  • Interesting Background - getting a "I didn't know that!" reaction
  • Why did you select this reading?
  • Reading of selection

Things to remember when finding information about your author, work,poet, musician, etc.

  • What interesting fact (quote, biographical or historical information, etc.) are you using from this source?
  • When will you use it in your speech?
  • Remember to use reliable sources
  • Make sure you can find out exactly who wrote the article or who created the information
  • Try to avoid sites that might not provide facts, that is, are opinions or are not from experts.
