#Nofilter Digital Photography Contest
How to Participate
To participate in the Digital Photography Contest, email Dr. Jake Detelich your entry at jacob.detelich@jwu.edu. Please submit your entry from your JWU email address and include a JPEG or PNG of your entry, your entry title and your name. Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m., Friday, March 17. Participants may submit a maximum of two entries for consideration.
Be sure to return to this page March 21 to view each entry and vote for a People's Choice winner.
A panel of judges will determine the winners in the following categories:
- Nature
- Urban
- Campus Life
- Abstract
There will also be winners selected in a separate category for Faculty/Staff.
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony from 3–4:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 22 in Hance Auditorium.

Overview
The Johnson & Wales University Charlotte Campus Library invites students, faculty and staff to participate in the #Nofilter Digital Photography Contest, inspired by the Community Read selection The Edge of Anything by Nora Shalaway Carpenter. In the novel, a loner teen photographer befriends a high school volleyball star. Set in the North Carolina mountains, the novel explores grief, mental health and the transformative power of friendship.

Entry Rules
- Contest is open to all Johnson & Wales students, faculty and staff.
- Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m., Friday, March 17.
- No more than two photos per entrant.
- Only photos taken between January 1, 2021 through March 17, 2023, by the entrant, will be accepted.
- Photos must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and be suitable for public display.
Judging and Prizes
Judging will take place March 19–21. A panel of judges will review contest photos to determine winners. Everyone will have the opportunity to vote on the People's Choice winner, until 11:59 p.m., Tuesday, March 21.
Winners will be announced, and prizes will be awarded at an awards ceremony 3–4:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 22 in Hance Auditorium.
Prizes:
First and second place winners in each category will receive JWU swag.
